The first amongst these karm (therapy) is VAMAN. This is the procedure in which unwanted amount of Kaph is removed from the body. This is the process medicated induced vomiting in which Kaph is removed without causing any other complications to the patient. It is not like regular vomiting which contains forceful evacuation of the stomach contents from the human body. However it is performed after a small procedure of Purv – karm (pre-procedure) which stimulates accumulation of Kaph Dosha in the stomach and this Kaph dosha only with small amount of Pitta is removed from the body. Mouth is consider as the nearest opening from which Kaph can be removed, hence Vaman is specifically indicated for it.
Proper therapy brings about a feeling of cleanliness of the chest and stomach, lightness of the body and ensures timely passing of urine and stool. But care must be taken to avoid over administration as it could result in unconsciousness, blood vomiting, sudden drop of blood pressure and chest pain.
