Kati Basti – Keeping warm Medicated oil on the Lumber region for some specific period.
Kati Basti is a treatment of the lower back, unique to Ayurveda.
The word ‘Kati’ refers to the ‘lower back’ and ‘Basti’ stands for ‘retaining something’ inside, in this case mainly medicated oil . Flour dough is used to form a well on the lower back and is filled with warm medicated oil. This procedure is popularly known as ‘Kati Basti’.
The oil is kept warm by continuously replacing it as it cools. The warm oil increases blood circulation in the area, relaxing the muscles, relieving pain, improving movement and reducing stiffness.
This is form of giving fomentation to localized area.
